Cloudbank
A next-generation cloud bioinformatics registry: federated data exchange between biobanks, laboratories and clinics for rare-disease drug development.
Context
Rare-disease drug development hits a wall because of data fragmentation: clinical samples, medical histories and lab results sit in the isolated systems of different organisations. Bringing them together into a managed, shared space is a prerequisite for serious medical research.
Problem
A cloud system for collecting, analysing and visualising large clinical data sets, with federated data exchange between distributed biobanks, laboratories and healthcare providers.
Architecture
Cloudbank is built on a cloud architecture with a federated exchange model: participants (biobanks, labs, clinics, doctors, patients) operate in their own isolated context while a shared data pool is formed through controlled permissions. The platform supports omics technologies (genomics, proteomics and related fields) and integrates patients, clinics, biotech and pharma into a unified personalised-healthcare system.
Integrations
Federated data exchange between independent organisations; omics data format support; electronic medical records; laboratory information systems.
Results
The project became a resident of the Skolkovo Foundation IT cluster. Research participants from different organisations gained secure access to aggregated data; the platform provides a foundation for personalised medicine at large cohort scale.
